Pleasant Valley Elementary School

Week of Oct. 5 - 9

Message from School Administration

It has been a busy week here at Pleasant Valley Elementary! We enjoyed seeing many families and community members at our open house this past Monday. Both adults and students absolutely love our new gym and classrooms!

Also, students in 2nd and 3rd grades seemed to enjoy their field trips on Friday! As we look forward to another week, please remember that students should not be bringing toys or needoh/squishies. They become a distraction to learning and the needoh/squishies are prone to busting and creating a mess.

Have a good weekend! We hope to see you all at this week's Chick-Fil-A Fundraiser night on Wed., Oct. 7 from 5 - 7 pm.

Pam Dowrey, Principal
Luke Roadcap, Assistant Principal

A Note from Mrs. Woodward

School Counselor

I love this time of year with the cooler temperatures and the beautiful fall colors. I also like October because I teach students about always being kind to prevent bullying. I hope students will tell you Kindness Matters and Pleasant Valley.

In 5th grade we will be learning about Massanutten Technical Center to prepare for our field trip October 16 in the afternoon. 5th grade teachers will be sending home a permission slip soon. Additionally, we will talk about good citizenship as we begin preparing for our Veterans Day assembly coming in November.

Spanish NTI information

See "NTI" in your child's gradebook?

NTI = Not Turned In

What it means: An assignment is currently missing and is temporarily recorded as a "0" in the gradebook until the work is submitted.

Opportunity to Catch Up: While turning work in on time is always best, missing assignments can still be submitted for credit. Students have up to two weeks from the original due date (or until the unit cut-off date) to complete and turn in their work.

This week: Look for NTI together with your child in PowerSchool. If you find one, talk with your child about what they need to complete the assignment.

For additional updates on the grading policy, please visit RCPS Grading Policy .

Pleasant Valley PTO Fun Run October 16

Students will be bringing home information about this Fun Run, scheduled for October 16 in the morning. Our goal is to raise enough funds to pave our track!

Traffic Pattern at PVES

PVES traffic pattern

Vehicles planning to park in the PVES front parking lot are able to enter through the upper entrance on Early Road. Please make sure to stop at the stop sign and obey traffic laws, as well as school staff who may be directing traffic.

Morning Drop-Off

  1. Please enter through the lower entrance as you have been doing and pull up to the stop sign at the corner to allow more cars to be unloaded.
  2. All traffic will be directed to turn LEFT ONTO THE NEW EXIT after dropping off. If that route becomes backed up, traffic will be directed to use the exit onto Pleasant Valley Road.
  3. Please do not get out of your vehicle. If your child needs assistance unbuckling, do so once you have stopped or please teach your child how to unbuckle.

Afternoon Pick-Up

  1. When forming the afternoon pick-up line, vehicles should continue to create a lane on the right side of the driveway leading up to Pleasant Valley Elementary from the lower entrance off Early Road.
  2. Please do not block the space between the cones at the rear of the school until instructed to pull forward after all alternate school transportation vehicles have left.
  3. An orange cone will be placed directly behind the last car in the right lane as an indicator to know the right lane is full. Once the cone is placed, please form or join the left lane. IMPORTANT: Do not start a left lane until instructed to do so. We have buses and alternate transportation vehicles who need to leave prior to the left lane starting.
  4. All traffic will be directed to turn LEFT onto the new exit after picking up your child. If that route becomes backed up, traffic will be directed to use the exit onto Pleasant Valley Road.
  5. Please do not exit your vehicle during drop-off or pick-up.
